What would one of these better places be?

DA as a whole is not one community, it's like a huge city, way too many people to be one community. Storm-artist.net is still small enough to be one community if that is what you are looking for.

However, if you are looking for a community where you can feel at home and find the sort of art you like and the sort of feedback you like, it is here. you just build it for your self here.

there are so many people here that there is a small community here just right for the needs of any individual. you just have to be willing to actively seek out the sub-community here which meets your needs.

talk to people, search for art you like and talk to the artists. talk to people who seem personable even if you don't like their art...maybe when you understand it you will learn to like it, or maybe you will teach them to be a better artist.

sure, popularity is here too, but it's easy to ignore. when I choose to make friends here, I look for people who are good but not popular.

I avoid all popular people except for Ramy.

it depends what you are looking for. Storm-artists.net is a nice place if you want a small friendly more personal community, but you won't get lots of favs or veiws cause it's a small community

conceptart.net is a great place to go for real, in-depth critique by some great talents, but that place kind of intimidates me. XD I have gone to mostly posting work on livejournal or (gasp) furaffinity for anthro work. FA is full of some rediculously awesome people.

See, I remember when it was a smaller community. That was back before the whole jark scandal and when popularity and snagging that DTF wasn't a big thing. It was nice.

As I mentioned, I've gone toward posting almost exclusively on livejournal and FA, and on top of that there's a few things I can't post on the net for a few reasons.

I have made some great friends here, and a few of them rank up with the "uber-popular" artists, but one of them has left the site because she feltDA made her care only about pageviews and not improving as an artist (she made the right choice, her already unbelievable art has gotten even better since leaving)

I just miss the old DA. :] when you could get an honest critique without having to worry about being buried underneath all the poorly drawn but OMGPOPULAR animu fanart.

I see fan art only when I look for it.

I get honest critique because I seek out honest people.

life is change, even on DA. If you can't change, you are left missing what has grow into something else.

I never was part of the larger DA community,so I have nothing to miss never wanted popularity or numbers so I don't resent it in others, I just stay away (except for Ramy).

you get what you look for, if you look for it in a reasonable way.

I totally understand what you're saying, but its always sad to see someone go. I like DA just cause its easy - people's new art delivered right to my message page.

Lemme know when you get details about what you need for sugoicon. I know it seems early, but I work full-time now, and . . . wow, time just goes by so differently when you don't get summers off or any of that jazz.
